Complaining about time out of joint. Inverted pretensions to Herrschaft in German texts of the medieval and early modern periods

Social transformations and cultural change in the Late Middle Ages led to the emergence of a specific type of public sphere. Poets who performed as ‚publicists’ acted within this sphere in order to influence opinion. My research is led by the hypothesis that ‚publicist activity’ can be taken as an early form of controlling Herrschaft by ‚public opinion’. The project will be based empirically on texts that in their entirety have not yet been the object of research. Its target is to recognize the phenomena of late medieval Publizistik in a comprehensive way, within the dimension of literary hermeneutics as well as with regard to political communication of a specific historical type.
